At Aventuras Naturales Yorkin, our history is deeply intertwined with the Bribri indigenous community. Founded in 1996 by twenty-one Bribri families, the Association of Organic Producers “El Chumú” aimed to improve the quality of life of organic banana producers through increased production and sales. After eight years of organic banana production efforts, we decided to establish a new association focused on tourism and sustainable agriculture.
Thus, the Association for Tourism, Development, and Organic Agriculture Yorkin was born, currently composed of eighteen families.
Our purpose is to dignify and enhance the well-being of the people of Yorkin through production diversification and the development of Community-based Rural Tourism. We use tourism as a tool for nature conservation and the preservation of our traditions. We invite visitors to discover ancestral practices in organic agriculture, cacao preparation, palm leaf weaving, crafting with natural materials, archery, and ancient songs dedicated to the earth, corn, cacao, and nature. During our magical forest hikes, our guides will share the secrets of the mountains, serving as wise custodians of our indigenous cultural heritage.
Take Route 32 towards Limón, and then continue south towards Puerto Viejo. At Hone Creek, turn right towards Bribrí. In the village of Bribrí, take the road towards Shiroles for 9 kilometers until you reach the mini supermarket of Bambú, next to the police station. Here, one of our guides will be waiting for you to continue your journey by boat.
From San José: at the Bus Terminal for the Caribbean Coast in San José (calle central, avenida 11. Transportes Mepe, tel: 2257 81 29), take the San José-Sixaola bus. Purchase your ticket before boarding the bus. Let the driver know you have to get out in the center of Bribrí. There you cross the street for the bus stop of the bus to Bambú. Or if you prefer, you can take a taxi, which will be a drive of approximately 20 minutes. From Puerto Viejo de Limón (40 minutes) or Cahuita (50 minutes), take a bus with destination Sixaola (these will have departed from either Limón or San José) and get off at Bribrí.
